What Just Happened to Me?

"I remember looking out my window and thinking, 'What just happened to me?'"

I was working, probably in my 40s or 50s, and I started reading the Bible. I read it for like three years straight—I slept, I worked, and I read the Bible! I just couldn’t get enough of it. At the end of all that, I realized what I had read—I was brought up Catholic. My mom had a key to the door, and we were always there, and I enjoyed that, but I thought, How can a church change things? God never changes!

One Sabbath, I visited an Adventist church with my friend, and when we left I said, “This is the church I want to go to!” And she says, “Well, they have one in Lapeer!” So we went there, and they said they were going to have a series at Orion-Oxford. They had already started the series, so I didn’t get all of it, but if I wasn’t working, I was at the meeting that night. I just enjoyed it so much. I just knew—everything correlated with what I had read, and how I thought it was.

I can remember sitting on the register at home, trying to stay warm and reading the Bible. I figured the state of the dead out just by reading, and I remember looking out the window from that position and just thinking, What just happened to me? All I can think of now is that it must have been the Holy Spirit telling me, You need to look into this and read it!

I was baptized in Otter Lake in 1994, and my life has continued on since then.
